Whirlwind trip to celebrate 60th Anniversary

WyomngI won the long debate of whether or not to take Dragon for this Tahoe trip.
Started out on Thursday, soo much later than we needed to. Nothing like leaving over 3 hours after we planned!
So that meant not being able to drive as long & ettin as far as we wanted on the first leg of the journey.
We made it to a rest stop just before Rock Springs, WY. I-80 had lots of construction and made it alot more difficult to drive during the night.

Wrapped for winter-Disappointing summer

Wintered DragonAs you can see Dragon is wrapped up for hopefully a snow filled winter (so we’ll have lots of water next year!). This summer definitely got away from me. Between both kids getting jobs and planning my business around the earned trips from PR.
We only took out the beast once! That was a HUGE disappointment as well. 🙁 Oh well, onward & upward learning from our lessons then changing habits for a better outcome. 😀

Our Trip to South Dakota!

The trip to South Dakota was AWESOME! It was our first real vacation in Dragon, the RV, and I loved it! The drive took about 6-8 hours so we had to stop, almost halfway there, at a truck stop because Mom and Dad were getting tired. Besides the fact that our journey was long I had plenty of things to entertain me, like: sleep, my book, my phone and headphones. I also didn’t mind it because, as Mom always says, “The journey is the reward.” which is Mom talk for, we spend quality family time on the road talking.
Anyway, when we finally got to the Horse Thief campground in South Dakota I just couldn’t wait to explore, because if you know me, you know I’m adventurous! Fortunately for us, that day the sun was out, the birds were singing, and Karl and I rode our bikes and explored. Unfortunately, the rest of the weekend was very rainy and gloomy, but I’m glad to have that day to have fun! When it rained we played cards and ate our food, which was equally as fun. One of the days, I believe it was Saturday, I was riding my bike really fast down the hill and Dad calls out, “SKID OUT!” and I hit both of my brakes at the same time and just fell over. Now, I don’t blame Daddy at all for this because I should know the difference between “SKID OUT!” and completely stop and fall down on my left side. So, after I fell, Mom, Dad and Karl say, “Are you okay?” and I look up at them and start balling my eyes out and cry, “No!” I started crying because when they asked that, I had gotten a zinging pain from my knee (Oh and by the way, I’m fine I just have a bruise on my knee).
On Sunday we went to Mt. Rushmore, and oh my gosh can I just tell you it was INSPIRING! I had never seen it before and loved seeing it, and I learned a LOT from it! I learned that Gutzon Borglum started the construction of Mt. Rushmore until he died, sadly, and his son, Lincoln Borglum, took over. I also learned that it took 14 years to build it with them spending a million dollars! When their original plan was for it to take 5 years with a budget of $500,000, and let me say boy, they were WAY over! Lastly, I learned all of the four faces of the presidents on Mt. Rushmore, there is, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt (Teddy), and Abraham Lincoln (Honest Abe). We even had Thomas Jefferson’s ice cream! You see, Thomas Jefferson made the first American ice cream recipe, which this I also learned! Mt. Rushmore was very cool and I recommend a trip to see it, whenever you can!
On our last day, which was Monday, we drove an hour out to the Hot Springs (still in South Dakota) to see the Mammoth Site. This part of our journey was very educational as well, which I absolutely LOVED! As you can see, I had a blast on our weekend vacation! So yeah, the knee part of the vacation I wouldn’t miss but I loved every other bit of our trip to South Dakota!
